Funding Applications

To assist filing of Funding Applications from Gaming Societies

There has been much written on funding applications and plenty of information on various sites, so what I have decided to do here, with the help of Dave Sloss, Commercial Manager, Linwood R.F.C. is to list some simple do’s and don’ts when making your applications.  This is underpinned with a list of useful link sites.

DO

  • Supply all information requested on the form. Failure to do so only slows down the process if the trust needs to get more information.
  • Provide a statement which shows what benefit your Organisation will achieve from the funds.
  • Say if you are applying from funding from societies other than the one you are applying to.
  • Send a letter of thanks if you receive money.
  • Keep copies of all documentation on hand.  Sometimes trusts lose receipts etc. so additional copies should be kept on hand.
  • If only one quote can be obtained, explain why in a covering letter.
  • Build a relationship with trust and employees.
  • Plan the year for your funding applications.
  • Note in your diary follow-up time of successful applications.

DON’T

  • Falsify your application.  If you get money from a trust, make sure you use it for that which you have applied.  If you don’t need all the money you receive for the project, send the balance back.
  • Add on bits to use up all the money.
  • Just fulfil minimum requirements, work on the application.
  • Forget that in most cases, trusts require justification of what has been spent and where to meet audit requirements. Failure to comply with this will impact on future applications.

At this point I would sound a warning that, as excellent as the funding is from Gaming Societies, it would be unwise to rely heavily on  this revenue source,  as funding is always subject to legislative change and could dry up.  It is vital therefore, that alternative revenue sources are continually pursued.

We will go into this in more detail as we journey through our  workshops and seminars.
