Captaincy Seminar

28 Apr 2009

The first of its kind in Canterbury, the event featured presentations by St. Bede's 1st XV and former NZ Schoolboys coach Gerry Davidson, CRFU High Performance Unit Manager John Haggart and referee Chris Wratt. Having identified many of the traits that are desirable in a young captain in the modern game, the audience split into groups to discuss how they would deal with a variety of scenarios including managing relationships with coaches, referees and their peers, among a variety of other things. Organiser Mark Ealey said: "It was marvellous to see how keen the young players are to become good captains; this augers really well for Canterbury rugby." The session was so well-received that a follow-up with the same group on giving after-match speeches will be held in early June .
