Back Attack from Leota

Based upon a presentation he had given at a Principles of Rugby Coaching Course, but updated to include the impact the ELVs have had on aspects of back attack, St Andrew’s College 1^st XV coach Joe Leota yesterday delivered a stimulating session in the latest of the Secondary School lecture series.

Joe’s lecture covered the fundamental principles of attack, with specific focus on issues related to the alignment of a backline, positioning and roles of individual players, multi-phase attack, the 6 vs 4 principle when attacking from lineouts and the importance of on and off-the-ball communication.
