Momo makes the grade“Momo,” is one of the increasing number of players in the Press Cup Competition who originally hail from overseas. Momo’s father is from Kenya, known of course for its prowess in 7s (recently including a win against New Zealand in Hong Kong this March), and his mother is from Somalia, where rugby is not played. Always a frontrower, Momo started playing rugby at the age of seven, when he was at Shirley Intermediate. After being chosen as the SBHS 2nd XV’s “Most Improved Player” in 2008, it was likely that he would be in the running for a 1st XV spot in 2009, which he has now achieved from mid-season. SBHS Rugby Administrator John Fox says: “When compared to the local Kiwi kids Mohamud has probably progressed more in a shorter time than anyone. He is a solid student who has trained hard to achieve his goals, and is, and always will be, the backbone of any team.” Keep up the good work Momo!
