Linwood beats Riccarton in Midweek OpenerLinwood HS beat last year's champions Riccarton HS by 21 - 15 in the first game of the Midweek Senior Boys season. Also in the Senior Boys section, Boys' High beat Area Schools by 34 - 19 and Aranui HS defeated Cashmere HS by 41 - 0. In the Year 9/10 competition Darfield HS, Lincoln HS, Rangiora Green, Riccarton and Cashmere HS all won their opening games. Cashmere were particularly pleased to have beaten Hillmorton HS by 35 - 29 to take the CashMorton Cup which is played for annually between the two schools. Last year's two leading teams in the U70 kg grade went head-to-head again in this season's opener with Papanui beating Kaiapoi by 14 - 12. Meanwhile in the Senior Girls section Papanui sent a clear message with a 73 - 5 win over Avonside; CGHS also made an encouraging start with a 36 - 5 win over Rangi Ruru.
