Played in showers of rain, it was a bruising encounter in which the Japanese forward pack came out on top with three tries to forwards. Flanker Takahiro Kimura score two tries from well-executed lineout drives and prop Shohei Hirano scored one with a good surge through heavy traffic (photograph). In the last minute, centre Hajime Tateno also scored for Higashi Fukuoka. Talented fullback Yoshikazu Fujita, who was a constant threat from the back, converted one of the four tries. For Rangiora, David Proctor and Ollie Ashby scored tries and Ricky Allin kicked one conversion. As always, Rangiora High School put on a very good aftermatch function and the two teams mixed well.
