StAC vs Lincoln H.S. Match ReportThis was a big game for the St Andrew’s College side marking the 50th Press Cup game for captain James Fairbairn,a great achievement, unfortunately not played at home due to field conditions to mark the occasion. After recent weeks of impressive committed rugby the game started slow for St Andrew’s College possibly a bit complacent against the low ranked Lincoln side.During the first 10-15minutes inaccuracies,50/50 passes and first up tackles being missed were hindering St Andrew’s College’s ability to mount any pressure on the plucky young Lincoln side.Gradually the intensity improved, forwards started getting a few good hit-ups going, maintaining possession and this enabled the backs to get some good front foot ball where they ran in 4 tries before halftime. Lincolns only first half opportunity was a penalty where their 1st five slotted a 3 pointer. Although St Andrew’s College rested several players at halftime they maintained intensity and were completely dominant in all facets of play during the second half running in about 6 good unanswered tries. The forwards,as they have done for most of the season, dominated the set pieces. Scrums were good and with 6 lineouts taken off the oppositions throw where 3 led directly to tries in the backs. For me James capped his 50th with 2 very good tries,Richie Mounga had a top game with 2 tries 7 from 8 conversions several from the sideline and his general kicking game was solid finding space enabling the side to create pressure. Martin Solofua made several good breaks from the base of the scrum, some of these probing down the blindside would be good. Final score was 59-3 a comprehensive win to St Andrew’s College which means we have finished the round robin in a creditable 5th place.
