CBHS vs Otago BHS Match Report

3 Aug 2010

The annual interschool 1st XV clash between these two schools was played this afternoon. Otago was victorious last year in Dunedin so Christchurch Boys’ were looking to turn the tables this year – and they did.

From the opening whistle the CBHS pack controlled the ball and gained ground with every movement, led by captain and hooker Pita Anae Ahsue. Left wing Will Robson finished off strong attacking moves at each end of the first half, scoring in the 4th and 31st minutes. Tries to fullback Sonatane Tuakalau and right wing Joseph Taylor and a conversion to Jarred Percival saw CBHS go into the break with a 22-0 lead.

Two unconverted tries by Otago at the start of the second half threatened a revival but the CBHS forwards defended stoutly with Reed Prinsep and Harry Jones prominent in the loose. The pressure on Otago continued with tries to prop Will Davis and replacements Daniel Johnstone and Martin Swart saw CBHS leading 43-10 with 8 minutes to go. Otago scored on fulltime but were unable to convert any of their tries or their 3 penalty shots at goal. Final score CBHS 43, Otago BHS 15
