Coach and Player Development on the Chatham IslandsCountry Coach Development Officer Lee Golding recently traveled to the Chatham Islands for his annual visit, taking the classes at Te One School for their skill development and Rippa Rugby. Lee says that the Rippa game is an awesome vehicle for skill development for multi level classes such as on the Chathams. It allows non-rugby players and especially girls to excel through attributes such as speed, balance and evasive skills. Lee named Michaela, Louise, Dahna, Paige, Saqqara, Ariel and Aimee as girls who certainly displayed these skills well. He also commented on the boys, particularly Ashton, Sean and Kodie who tempered their own competitive game style to ensure games were played in a more inclusive manner particularly for the girls. Lee is amazed at the growth and development of the players across all levels. 'They are so receptive and really got involved in their Rippa and other rugby related activities.' Even the adverse weather from time to time does not deter their energy, enthusiasm, endeavours and most importantly enjoyment. Photos of his time on the Chatham Islands
