Referee Recruitment 2012

There is to be a major recruitment drive in 2012 which will see a number of different avenues used to attract new members to join; these include advertising in newspapers and Radio, information evenings and Members Incentive Scheme.  Under the Members Incentive Scheme every current CRRA member who brings along a new member in 2012 will receive a $50 Westfield Voucher per new member, conditions apply.  So how about spending the summer checking out your friends and family about joining us in 2012?  If you have a new member ready to go please advise Lyndon McKendry with the new referee’s contact details.

Expressions of Interest – Possible club 7’s tournament

There is a possibility that there could be a three week club 7’s competition during February,  as part of the preparation for the tournament we need to know how many referees would be available to assist at such a tournament.  Can you please contact Lyndon by 27 January 2012 to advise whether or not you are available to referee should the tournament go ahead.

Level 1 Referee Coach Course

A Level 1 course for Referee Coaches (or those interested in becoming one) will be held on Sunday 11th March.  Please register with Lyndon McKendry as soon as possible.  The course is open to all new Referee Coaches and also to those involved in mentoring of new referees as well as anyone interested in becoming a Referee Coach in the future.  More Referee Coaches are needed so please contact Lyndon for more information.

Referee Fitness Training

Once again, Sarah Helmore will conduct the Referee fitness sessions.  These sessions are open to all members; these sessions will be on Wednesdays from 1st February onwards.  The sessions start at 6.00 pm sharp.  Feel free to come along and train with other referees, it is great fun and really enjoyable.  Make sure you bring a water bottle to each session and a training jacket if cold or wet.  Sarah will be sending out a training venue schedule shortly so in the mean time make sure you have the days marked in your calendar and get ready!

International Appointments

Following on from very good performances in 2011 Nicky Inwood has appointed to two women’s six nations game by the IRB..  On 10th March she will control France v England in Paris and on 18th March England v Ireland in London.  Best wishes to Nicky for these appointments.

Canterbury Referees on Facebook

At the end of 2011 a Facebook page for Canterbury Rugby Referees was set up as another means of getting information out to members.  If you are a Facebook user and not yet a friend of CRRA, then make sure your search for our page; we are called Canterbury Referees then send a “friend’ request.  It is a good way to get info out to members quickly.  We will still be using newsletters and our Web page to communicate with you as well as Facebook.
