The Press Cup to Kick off With Big Match-Ups
The 2010 Press Cup kicks off this weekend with some intriguing matches for the armchair rugby fan.
Perhaps the most appetizing match of the round sees Christchurch Boys’ High School travel to Nelson College to take on one of its great rivals in recent times. Both schools have been near the top of the competition since it started and it promises to be an even-fought match. Given the fact that this match is in round one, both sides will fancy their chances of winning. Christchurch Boys’ has had decent preparation, taking on Gisborne Boys’ High School in the Curtain Raiser to the Crusaders Match against the New South Wales Waratahs recently. They should start as favourites.
There will also be much interest in the way that 2009 champions St Bede’s College goes this season – They are away to St Thomas first up. Although they may not be quite as strong as last season, they should still win on Saturday.
Another school that has looked good pre-season, Christ’s College, takes on Marlborough Boys’ College at home. Despite their quality pre season and the fact they are playing at home, Christ’s may start as Underdogs.
Burnside High School (celebrating their 50th anniversary this season) are at home to Lincoln High School in another interesting contest, though Burnside will be favoured to win this match. In other matches – the newly promoted Roncalli College from Timaru play St Andrews College, Shirley Boys’ High School are at home to Waimea College, and Timaru Boys’ High School host Ashburton College.
