Health & Safety Policy - Rugby Park

In accordance with our inhouse Health & Safety Management programme, Visitors and Contractors must obey all reasonable instructions and signs whilst on site to ensure their actions create no hazards to people or property. Your site host will brief you on any specific health and safety requirements in the areas you are visiting. You must be accompanied at all times unless you are inducted on our site.

Fire and Emergency

On hearing the alarm please leave the site immediately by the nearest Fire Exit. Your host or fire warden will escort you to a designated area. Please remain there until the all clear is given.

Smoking and Vaping

Canterbury Rugby is a smoke free workplace and smoking and/or vaping is prohibited within any of the office areas. Smoking and vaping are also prohibited in all outdoor areas of our workplace.

Acceptance

Accepting acknowledges the understanding of our conditions of entry.
Please advise reception if you would require assistance in the event of an emergency.

Health & Safety Information - Orangetheory Stadium

As the organisers of the 2022 Canterbury Rugby home games, we are responsible and will show a duty of care for health & safety at the event. In particular we will take all necessary precautions to ensure the health & safety of spectators, volunteers and staff who will be working at the event.

All contractors, employees and volunteers must read and complete required information and forms prior to the first game.

On site, you are considered a worker. The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 states that while at work, a worker must:

  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety;

  • Take reasonable care that their actions or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons

  • Comply, as far as reasonably able, with any reasonable instruction that is given by PCBU’s to allow it to comply with the law;

  • Co-operate with any reasonable policy or procedure of the PCBU’s relating to health and safety that has been notified to workers.

Reporting

You must report all hazards, accidents and near misses immediately to Venue Operations Manager, Pete Maddock 027 680 4153 or Peter.Maddock@vbase.co.nz, or email info@vbase.co.nz or your immediate Canterbury Rugby contact.

Please don’t attempt to control a hazard that is beyond your skill and knowledge level.

General Health & Safety Information

Access to emergency exits, fire extinguishers, manual call points and hose reels must not be obstructed at any time.

Unauthorised use or removal of venue equipment such as hose reels, forklifts, scissor lift, is strictly prohibited. Use of venue equipment is by prior arrangement only and requires the appropriate licenses to be held. Any equipment being brought onto the venue (scissor lifts/forklifts) must be appropriately licensed and the Venue may wish to sight licenses prior to work being undertaken.

Stay off the playing fields unless it is completely necessary, and you have the appropriate accreditation.

Obey all site rules, signs and instructions.

Smoking in designated areas only (smokers area between Gate A & Gate B). Persons under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to start work and will be removed from site. Any persons engaging in violent or disruptive behaviour will be removed from site immediately.

All non-fixed electrical equipment must comply with current NZ Standards “tagging and testing” policies and be tagged with appropriately dated tag. All cables must be safely run, utilising cable ducts to eliminate any trip hazards.

Permit to work may be required for high risk activities such as scaffolding, crane operations or work at height.

Children under the age of 16 years of age are not permitted onsite during the pack-in or pack-out of the venue. i.e. not in Stadium Event mode. The work enviornment during pack in and pack out are considered to be construction zones.

Emergency Response

If you see an emergency situation, raise the alarm by activating a call point and dial 111. If you hear an emergency evacuation message, please make your way to the nearest exit. Follow the directions of Venue Security and PA announcements for evacuation procedures.

Venue Specific Information

Failure to comply with your companies or the venue’s health and safety requirements will result in your removal from the venue. This includes all documentation requirements.

If you are requiring access to the Stadium on a non-event day (i.e. works not included in the event plan) – you need to sign in the Orangetheory Stadium visitors register. This is located at Horncastle Arena security room. If you require access outside business hrs (Mon- Fri 6am-6pm), you will need to provide written notification to Vbase of this requirement. Hazardous Works - If your organization, or a contractor engaged by you, is performing any dangerous activity that may cause any person harm please let the vennue know– we need to be able to communicate this to others working in the Stadium.

Accreditation

Please ensure that you are wearing your accreditation at all times.

Hazards

Many hazards exist on site, however, the highest risk hazards include:

  • event staff, contractors, performers, and participants tripping/slipping over electrical cords, or on slippery surfaces on and around the field

  • Balls hitting crowd

  • Injuries around heavy lifting

  • Slips, trips and falls. These are some of the most common accidents in the workplace.

  • Hazards not being reported
